Week 5A: Defining a Target Market

Armstrong Garden Centers vs. Myrtle Creek gardens After looking through each businesses website, it seems that both business are alike and can appeal to a similar audiences. However, due to certain differences they both cater to a certain target market. Myrtle Creek seems to be more of destination that would appeal to local families and tourists looking for a fun little day adventure. They offer a cafe that sources its food locally, a bird sanctuary, tours, gift shops, as well as being a nursery that sells plants. Myrtle Creeks target market appears to be local and non local families of all income ranges who enjoy outdoor activities, adventures, and who enjoy visiting community driven recreation centers, and other things of a similar nature. The overall feel and vibe of Myrtle creek seems to be very relaxed and inviting, as to attract people to visit and experience its beauty. Armstrong Garden Centers is a chain gardening and landscape services retailer that has locations spanning

Week 4B: Websites I like.

1. https://unsplash.com/ As I've mentioned before I am a photographer, so naturally I like to admire and gain inspiration from other photographers. Unsplash is a website that is strictly about photography and great Imagery in general. All photos uploaded can be downloaded for free, for any use. It's simple, straight forward, and has beautiful layout. Content is curated beautifully and feeds are visually engaging. There's even a section of the website where you can view works of art people have made using images from this website. Unsplash is by far one of my favorite websites, it combines great design (Typography, layout, and functionality) with even better content to create a beautiful experience. However, there is one small change that I would make. Like I mentioned before, there is a section of the website that features art made with images from Unsplash. The thing is, this section is somewhat hidden in a sub menu. What I would do is bring a link for this section to th

Week 4A: Aesthetics, Design, and Branding

Website #1: Pennyjuice.com As soon as I opened this site, I almost went blind and had a heart attack at the same time. First thing that stands out to me are the hideous color choices. It honestly looks like a unicorn vomited all over this page. None of the colors are complimentary, and the hues are very harsh on the eyes. They don't even use the color from their logo anywhere else on the website. I would recommend that they simplify the color palette, find some fun vibrant colors that compliment each other well, and choose hues that are slightly more muted. The other big thing i notice on this page is the typography, it's terrible. There are too many different typefaces and font sizes, nothing is consistent besides the fact that everything is sans serif. The color choice for the type is also horrendous. I would suggest simplifying to one or two typefaces with no more than 3 different font sizes. And again use colors that make sense for the overall design of the page. Somethin

Week 3B: 5 businesses & their social media

All the businesses I have chosen are local and just businesses I like in general. Business 1: Sun Diego Boardshop URL: https://sundiego.com/  Social Media: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram Latest Post: FB: 11 hours ago (9/8), Tw: 9/5, Insta: 12 hours ago (9/8) Analysis: Feeds on all platforms seems to be cohesive and frequent. I really like how they treat their followers as a community, not only posting about products they sell but also posting about community events.  Business 2: Catch surf URL: https://catchsurf.com/ Social Media: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Youtube, Vimeo Latest Post: FB: 9/7, Tw: 9/7, Insta: 9/7 YT: 9/7, Vim: 9/7 Analysis: Feeds on all platforms are consistent. They seem to use a lot of video promotion, which makes sense since they're a surfboard company. YouTube/ Instagram seems to be they're main platforms since both allow video and accrue the most attention. Very lifestyle oriented brand which shows through in their

Week 3A Communication

In all my years of adulting (which aren't many), doing all the things that adults have to do like, pay bills, buy stuff, work, and then buy other stuff. I don't think I've ever had any trouble communicating with any brands or businesses, and I think social media has played a big role in why. In an age where anything can go viral in a matter of hours, it's easy for things to take a turn for the worst after the smallest slip up, especially for a business. So being able to resolve issues, and communicate clearly what those issues are with customers is very important for any business big or small.  I have a great example from personal experience that I'll share. About a year ago I came across a denim company on Instagram whose products I really liked and was considering buying. Long story short, I ordered a pair of pants off their website, they were too small when I got them, so I had no choice but to try and exchange them or make a return. Prior to this I had never
