Week 4B: Websites I like.

1. https://unsplash.com/

As I've mentioned before I am a photographer, so naturally I like to admire and gain inspiration from other photographers. Unsplash is a website that is strictly about photography and great Imagery in general. All photos uploaded can be downloaded for free, for any use. It's simple, straight forward, and has beautiful layout. Content is curated beautifully and feeds are visually engaging. There's even a section of the website where you can view works of art people have made using images from this website. Unsplash is by far one of my favorite websites, it combines great design (Typography, layout, and functionality) with even better content to create a beautiful experience. However, there is one small change that I would make. Like I mentioned before, there is a section of the website that features art made with images from Unsplash. The thing is, this section is somewhat hidden in a sub menu. What I would do is bring a link for this section to the home page so that people are more inclined to visit it. It's a beautiful page with lots of cool/ inspiring content that would be a shame to keep hidden.

2. https://catchsurf.com/

I'm an avid surfer/ ocean lover and spend at least a couple hours everyday surfing. I have a bit of an addiction buying boards of all shapes and sizes and my go to brand/website is CatchSurf. Besides having a plethora of boards to choose from, their website is fun to use. The home page is definitely attention grabbing, like an 80's themed gym class, bright/fun colors fill the page. The site is self is relatively simple and easy to navigate. All shop categories line the top of page in plain sight for all to see. Each category is broken into sub-categories making it even easier for people to find what they're looking for. Like Unsplash, this page has a beautiful layout perfect for its intended use. The primary engaging element is its visuals and images used. By using great images/visuals, it allows the rest of the website to remain minimal without multiple elements competing for the viewers attention. What I've gained from looking at both of these websites is reinforcement on the fact that simple is inevitably better. A simple page with well laid out content is a winning combo.
